Our Early Years

Our Early Years Vision:

Children in Early Years at St Johns become confident and independent learners, gaining the foundational skills and tools to prepare them for their journey of school life.

Our Early Years Ethos:

Children have positive, ambitious attitudes, that are nurtured and encouraged by the staff working within the Early Years unit.

Welcome to Early Years at St. John’s. Our Early Year's curriculum is exciting, fun and hands-on. The children are encouraged to play and explore, solve problems, be creative and think critically through carefully planned activities and opportunities. Our children are active in their learning and are given a wide range of learning tasks in order to take risks, develop resilience and to become more independent.

Our Curriculum:

Our curriculum is separated into two main areas of learning.

Prime areas of learning:

· Personal, Social and Emotional Development

· Communication and Language

· Physical Development

Specific areas of learning

· Literacy - Reading/Writing/Phonics

· Mathematics

· Understanding The World

· Expressive Arts and Design

Throughout the day, children have the opportunity to access all the areas of learning within the unit, and in our outdoor learning area. Children’s learning is supported by adults facilitating and questioning; planning, that includes the children’s interests and events happening in everyday life.

Our Values:

Our school values of ‘Dedication’, ‘Courage’ and ‘Joy’ are at the heart of our everyday life in delivering our Early Years curriculum and life.

Dedication – Children to want to learn and challenge themselves in new activities and learning.

Courage – Children want to try new things, we nurture to give them the courage to do this.

Joy – Children in Early years at St. John's have a love of learning, and happy to be a part of our school.
