Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education

At St John’s Primary School the teaching of PSHE plays an important role in our appreciation of our own abilities and health as well as the development of all children into healthy global citizens. We believe it is important that children are encouraged to challenge themselves, and develop a healthy life-style. Alongside this, our pupils will acquire a range of skills, which will allow them to flourish in other areas of the curriculum or future roles within the wider community.

Teaching strategies are varied and are mindful of preferred learning styles and the need for differentiation.

Jigsaw is designed as a whole school approach, with all year groups working on the same theme (Puzzle) at the same time. This enables each Puzzle to start with an introductory assembly, generating a whole school focus for adults and children alike.

PSHE/RSE Parental Consultation

As you may already be aware, PSHE and RSE Policy Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), along with Health Education, is now a statutory part of the National Curriculum. Schools are required to consult with parents when developing and reviewing their policies for Relationships and Sex Education (RSE), which will inform schools’ decisions on when and how certain content is covered.

We appreciate it if parents and carers could share their thoughts on the policy. The policy can be found below. Please email the school office office@stjohsncea.org.uk, for the attention of Mrs Bowyer and Mr Buckley if you have any concerns or queries.
